Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data Pocket Extrovert collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've written this in plain language because you shouldn't need a lawyer to understand how your data is handled.
What Pocket Extrovert does
Pocket Extrovert is a private, personal relationship memory tool with three modes:
- Neighbors — Remember who lives where, their pets, kids' names, permissions, and relationships, anchored to places on a map.
- Friends — A personal CRM for friendships. Track life events, birthdays, last-contact dates, and set reach-out reminders on adjustable intervals.
- Work — A personal CRM for professional contacts. Organize contacts by organization and team, with notes for meeting prep.
What data we collect
When you use Pocket Extrovert, we collect the following information:
- Phone number — used to create and verify your account via SMS. Your phone number is sent to our authentication provider for verification (see Third-party services below).
- Location data — used only while you are actively using the app, to show nearby houses on the map in Neighbors mode. We do not track your location in the background.
- Device contacts — if you choose to import contacts in Friends mode, we read only the contacts you select. We do not upload or sync your full address book.
- Push notification token — a device identifier used to deliver reach-out reminders (nudges) as push notifications. This token does not identify you personally.
- Neighborhood information you enter — houses, people's names, pets, permissions (like "you can use the swing"), notes, and relationships. You choose what to record.
- Friends information you enter — friends' names, birthdays, life events, contact records (interaction history), circle groupings, nudge preferences, and notes.
- Work information you enter — professional contacts' names, titles, organizations, teams, tags, and notes.
How we use your data
Your data is used solely to provide the app's functionality to you. We use it to display your neighborhood map, store your friends and work contacts, send you reach-out reminders you've configured, and help you remember the people in your life. That's it.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers in the United States, specifically in the us-west-2 (Oregon) region.
Third-party services
We use a small number of third-party services to make Pocket Extrovert work. Here's exactly what each one does and what data it receives:
Used by all platforms (iOS, Android, and web):
- Twilio — Delivers SMS verification codes when you sign up. Receives your phone number. Nothing else.
- Supabase — Handles account authentication. Stores your phone number and authentication credentials.
- OpenAI — When you type a note in Neighbors mode, the text is sent to OpenAI for entity extraction. This is how we turn "The Johnsons have a dog named Biscuit" into structured data. OpenAI does not receive your Friends or Work data. OpenAI does not use API data to train its models.
iOS app:
- Apple MapKit — Displays the map in Neighbors mode. Map tile requests go to Apple's servers, which see the general area you're viewing. Apple does not receive your Pocket Extrovert data.
- Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — Delivers nudge reminders as push notifications. Apple receives a device token to route notifications to your device. The content of notifications is sent through Apple's servers.
Android app:
- OpenStreetMap — Displays the map in Neighbors mode. Map tile requests go to OpenStreetMap's servers, which see the general area you're viewing. OpenStreetMap does not receive your Pocket Extrovert data.
- Google Play Services (Location) — Provides your device's location so we can center the map. Location requests are processed through Google's location services.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) — Delivers nudge reminders as push notifications. Google receives a device token to route notifications to your device. The content of notifications is sent through Google's servers.
Server-side only (no user data involved):
- OpenStreetMap — We use OpenStreetMap's point-of-interest database to seed Yard Safari items. This is a server-side data import and does not involve any of your personal data.
What we don't do
- We do not show you ads.
- We do not use analytics or tracking tools.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not track your behavior across apps or websites.
- We do not build profiles about you for advertising purposes.
Data sharing
Neighbors mode: Your neighborhood data is only shared with members of workspaces you explicitly join. If you create a share link, the information in that link becomes accessible to anyone with the link.
Friends and Work modes: Your friends and work contact data is private to you. It is not shared with any other users and is not visible to anyone but you.
Data retention
Your data is kept for as long as you have an active account. When you delete your account, your data is permanently removed from our systems.
Account deletion
To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at support@pocketextrovert.com. We will process your request and confirm deletion.
Children's privacy
Pocket Extrovert is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
